Why Tap Water is Better than Bottled Water

Every year, billions of plastic bottles clog our landfills in the name of convenience and safety. In reality, drinking properly filtered water from your home’s tap is healthier, cheaper and more environmentally friendly.

What happens to all that plastic?

Americans use 50 billion plastic water bottles every year, most of which never get recycled. Those plastic bottles do not decompose quickly, contributing tons of waste — more than 4 billion pounds of plastic annually.

Is bottled safer?

Recent studies question the safety of using certain plastics for storing drinking liquids. Some have been shown to leach chemicals into water. Many experts recommend switching to stainless steel containers. But that means filling your bottle from the tap, where the water may be contaminated unless properly filtered.

You may be surprised that health standards for bottled water are no stricter than those for municipal tap water. And before 1995, bottled water wasn’t even held to that standard. Bottled water sold in the United States is not necessarily cleaner or safer than tap water.

Plus, bottles labeled “spring water” offer no guarantee of safety. Springs can be easily contaminated and you often don’t know where the “spring” is. One of the leading American bottled water companies has admitted that their “source” is their tap water!

Bottled water is expensive

If you follow the recommendation of physicians and drink 64 ounces of bottled water every day, you could spend $4 - $6 per day! The same 64 ounces of pure filtered tap water cost less than a penny per day.

Filtration is the answer

The best, safest and most convenient way to ensure that the water you use for drinking and cooking is clear, clean and pure is through in-home filtration. Filtration systems eliminate contaminants and microbes found in wells or municipal water sources.

Water that has been treated by reverse osmosis is considered to be the safest. And there is nothing more convenient than producing your own clean, fresh water right at home.
