What is turbidity?

Turbidity refers to how clear water is. The greater the amount of suspended solids in the water, the murkier it appears and the higher the measured turbidity. If you need to let a glass of water “settle” before drinking, it is likely you are experiencing turbidity in your water.

How does my drinking water become turbid?

Soil runoff and suspended particulate matter can make your water appear turbid.

What are the health effects of turbidity?

Turbidity is often associated with higher levels of disease-carrying organisms such as viruses, parasites and bacteria. The elements that cause turbidity can cause nausea, cramps, diarrhea and associated discomfort.
